Re: Chanting 'USA' at basketball game deemed racist
Don't be so naive, please. You have to know better than that. I can't believe you honestly think that is true. Any chant can be directed in any manner. It all depends on the intent, and if they were chanting USA as a way to imply they are "American" and the other team isn't, and they are obviously Hispanic Americans, that's wrong, very prejudiced, and definitely meant to be disrespectful.
So, is it meant to be a prejudiced chant or are the kids fucking retards? It's one or the other.Last edited by Fovezer; 03-13-12 at 11:40 PM.

Look even If I agreed with you......I would still disagree because even If I believed it was prejudice I would still think it was okay. I really strongly believe that chanting USA in America under ANY circumstances should NOT have any consequences regardless of whether people are offended or not. Also does freedom of speech not come into play here? The speech in itself, even if some people were offended was not dangerous nor malicious. So why should they be banned from future games?

This political correctness bull shit has to stop and people need to shut the fuck up.
1) The United States, is not a race
2) Those kids on the other team are equally as American as the kids on the winning team
No racial issues were involved and all kids were from the same country as the country being chanted. Where's the fucking problem?
Like a previous poster stated, if there had been chants of "MEXICO, MEXICO, MEXICO", not one person on that school board would have thought twice about that as being "racist". There seems to be a double standard in this country that gets overlooked until any non whites are on the other end of it...then it's a HUGE problem all of a sudden and people start getting victimized for no fucking reason.
This society has gotten so afraid that any word that comes out of your mouth can be offensive, that it's come to bull shit like this? It's a joke.
You want this shit to stop? Stop calling "non whites" minorities and refer to them as "individuals" and "people" just like you would a white person. The black, Hispanic, Oriental, etc.... people in my community are no more minorities than I am. All of us our American. Stop with the "minority" bull shit, and we wouldn't have this issue.

What you "believe" isn't important here. This is a simple issue, and you're trying to make this molehill into a mountain. If is was INTENDED, by the the people saying it, not what you believe, to be a slight towards the Hispanic-dominated school, then it's wrong. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. This is really simple.
They're allowed to say what they want, but that doesn't mean the school has to like it or allow them to attend their events and banning them has nothing to do with restricting their freedom of speech. A lot of people seem to misunderstand what is and isn't covered by freedom of speech.
That's cool, but totally irrelevant.

Local coverage of this has been along the lines of these two schools have been rivals for a long time. It's not a friendly rivalry. One is more affluent than the other, but both schools, and more to the point both teams, have Hispanic kids on the teams. Neither area, from what a recall of the coverage, is immigrant Hispanic though, more second/third generation. So I'm inclined to chalk this up to stupid things stupid kids do in the name of razzing competition. Right? No. Racial? I don't think so either.
