Strange Ways
So there's been a kerfuffle, and because I have personal interest I've been following it. On a good day it rises past the level of celebrity gossip. I wouldn't have been surprised to see some reference to it in this forum, or in the PC and Hardware forum; but I haven't seen such and am also not surprised. If any of you are truly interested I'm sure you can find it.
If not, you can ask me. But I'm avoiding the details here, because they're a distraction.
For now.
But it's a story about stories.
It's all about a successful performance artist, and Apple Computer, and lies and the truth, and people who were duped and people who pretended they were duped, and exploited workers who maybe aren't as exploited as we think (but are probably more exploited than we know), and it's a tiny little tempest in a shiny little teapot about which most people should quite correctly not give a flying fuck.
But you never know by what strange ways the good stuff will come to you.
This, dear friends, is the good stuff:
M.Willis - Art, Design, Soccer, Web | Storytelling, Compromise, and This American Culture
Read it.
If you need backstory, search for "This American Life" and "Mike Daisey" and read as much of the blog-o-sphere's nattering as you can stomach. I won't say it's not important, but I will say that most of the links you read from such a search are crap.
But not the link above.
Cheers,
AetheLove

Re: Strange Ways
Well no one else had anything to say about this apparently. I'll be honest, I hadn't heard about the kerfuffle (excellent word by the way - it's under-utilized).
But having read the link you posted and a smattering of other sources in the blog-o-sphere (really don't like that word - there's nothing spherical about blogs or their habitats) I think the author, M. Willis, is poignantly spot on.
Thanks for sharing.
