Re: Governor signs bill to allow citizens to resist police
Oy vey - please smoken - post something with either less tinfoil or more cowbell ffs.
I agree with your first point in that Americans are increasingly less trusting of the court system here. However the story you posted doesn't paint a clear pro/con proposition in terms of this discussion as there are valid reasons why the "victim" was tased. Disagreeing with the use of the Taser does not make this a "police overreach" imo. Without sidetracking too much, it would appear that the man in this case (unless new details emerged since then as this was a 2010 story) was drunk and obviously in distress and belligerent. One must assume that the police were called by his spouse who you can hear in the video. I also heard several calm requests for him to calm down and come with them peacefully. I believe that the police have been charged with, in a public safety fashion, of taking into custody and transporting to a medical facility those people who appear to be a danger to themselves or others. If the claims in the article are correct the man was depressed, drunk and belligerent and claimed "...would shoot himself if he had a gun." How many times in the last few years have we read stories, and discussed at length, about people in that state who go on to wipe out entire families before turning the gun on themselves? More than a few. So with that said, if the police stopped him from going any further down the dead end of drunk and depressed I think that's a good thing taser or not.
