I think she nailed it. Herion has properties that deemed it useful medically and it effects a very small percentage of the population. MJ however hasn't been proven to do anything medically as of right now (keep in mind i said proven that means without a doubt) and it effects a much higher percentage of the population. Balancing things out so they are equally bad.

I agree with most of that analysis; in particular the part where she refused to do the social calculus of measuring the total "harm" that either drug does.

I will note that the majority of opiates used as medicine are used as pain killers. I don't want to trivialize the value of pain relief, but they're not curing disease or fighting infection. This is pretty much exactly the same type of use suggested by medical marijuana proponents. It helps manage pain and nausea (and maybe other things).

She wouldn't have gotten fired, shes the Chief Administrator nominated by Obama. Meaning there is no one higher in ranking in the DEA, she's the boss....unfortunately. And it's not like they were asking her to say marijuana was good or had medical benefits. She could have said "I think marijuana is extremely dangerous, addictive, and harmful....but yes it is less harmful then heroin or meth". But she wouldn't even give us that, I think her statement symbolizes the failed war on drugs.

She should have been held in contempt, she would not answer the question...because she knew the only answer should could give is one that everyone including herself knows is a lie. So instead of lying she just simply refused to answer.

Wouldn't be a very good boss if she trivialized any particular one over the other. Kind of like cutting your own throat when funding checks get issued.

She's the boss of the DEA, a government agency, not some privately owned corporation. Her fiduciary duty is to us, the American people. She is suppose to tell us the truth regardless of how it affects her funding, which the American people also pay for.
