Re: DEA agent won’t admit heroin more harmful than marijuana
And then, I ask....why make a substance illegal if no proof of it being harmful has been produced? There is more proof of cigarettes being harmful than there is for marijuana...yet one is legal and the other one isn´t.
I really don´t get it

I really dont think your alone in not getting it. Some of the problem is the arguments being made. One side says legalize/decriminalize it and the other says its to harmful. Neither knows whats important about it. I like the middle ground. Do the damn study and make an educated decision.

Maybe so. I had a friend who worked in the field. He was my source, but that was a while ago and maybe things have changed.
Since the status-quo of pot is being challenged by a few states, maybe there are some state-funded (or at least sanctioned) studies going on. That'd be good news.
I'll bet the Dutch have some decent data.

Re: DEA agent won’t admit heroin more harmful than marijuana
I keep hearing the argument that we do not know enough about MJ because there are not many studies conducted...
I call BS. The earliest somewhat systematic-empirical study I can think of without googling is the Legaurdia Report in the 30's. A government Research Panel. Further, Nixon commissioned an official study as well; which was later buried but now unclassified.
But just for fun I googled [MJ] studies in google scholar for articles bearing citations only and returned 135k documents. Those are mostly peer reviewed studies. marijuana studies - Google Scholar A search of my academic database for the Oregon University System yields twice that; almost all peer reviewed, mostly starting in the 60's and 70's.
Further, with all the drug addicts being treated in the last 40 years, anyone in the field of addiction treatment can probably attest (even if anecdotally) to sheer numbers of occurences; MJ vs Heroin deaths, crimes, etc. It is a very large field, and attracts a lot of study frankly.
But also my very own textbooks on chemistry, pharmacology, drugs, etc. (I have very specific academic texts on drugs) are clear on the pharmacokinematic action of MJ and other other the rest of the biochemisry is well understood, as is heroine, further, the level of addiction is well understood.
Medical value is still somewhat questionable in many cases IMO.
I don't need to post links, just use google, there are studies going on right now at the local Health Science university (OHSU) in partnership with my university for example. I know it is well studied and is still being studied despite federal regulations. Clearly some people can get around that for the sake of science/security/medicine.

Your still missing the point Soy. Getting around the feds to do a study is no better then not having the study. Both you can wipe your ass with when it comes time to actually discuss its legal or illegal future.
