I'm just going off of what the regulations say.. They are not exempt from screening with x-rays, tera sensors/cloth, metal detectors, or even dogs. They are however not to be opened.

you keep the container closed and you run it through the x-ray.

opening and sifting around is a nono. what if it was actually a powder that was dangerous like anthrax. goodbye everyone at terminal B.

They do have those nifty little scanner. So really is there a reason to open any canister to begin with? Anything under 2oz never gets opened anyway from what i have seen and oddly enough that plenty of material to bring a plane down. So i see no reason to promote false security to begin with.

    Wow...

I worked at an Airport behind the security gates; TSA is a joke. We enter via a security gate where we get searched, etc. But then we are free to come and go via an unguarded security door (you just need a card). Many of the workers at the restaurants there would come in via the gate, then go out the service entrance to the car to get [insert drug or other contraband] and bring it in to use in the walk-in cooler or what have you. TSA is horribly organized, hires woefully inadequate personnel, and are generally ineffectual.

They should minimize gate security, hire a few real experts and put air-marshalls on every plane. It would probably be cheaper...
