This may sound partisan but it seems that he was against forcing those who couldn't afford to buy health insurance. The mandate as it is now is structured so that if you can't afford it, the govt. will subsidize you.

I, too, would be against the mandate if it forced those who couldn't afford it to have be fined for not getting it. Obviously this isn't the case with the mandate we have now.

There for this video is pointless and we should move on to more relevant and honest topics.

I'm not saying I'm against Obamacare, but affordability is a tricky word to use for people who are barely scraping by now. And subsidizing is not completely free, nor guaranteed - unless you qualify. I've plugged some numbers into this subsidy calculator
http://healthreform.kff.or/subsidyca...FQZtKgodVGvmhQ and a single person 29 years old - no employer policy available - in a lower cost region who is making $15302 qualifies to be on medicad. If you make $15303 (one dollar more) your premium will be $459 and you would be responsible for up to $2083 out of pocket. Granted, that is only $38.25/month, but affordability is a very relative term for people who live with this kind of low income (my son included). I understand it's MORE affordable with the subsidies, but I think a lot of these low income people will almost certainly try to take a pass on getting this insurance - no matter how much is subsidized or how low the cost. That is just how bad it is for a lot of people.

Bubba, no doubt that a person making a lean leaving is struggling but for this system to function properly every able body earner is going to have to ante up. Health insurance like auto insurance is necessary. We're not talking about boob jobs here but about the first steps to a functioning healthcare system for all. While the bill as it is, is incomplete I personally believe that with time a lot of the inadequacies will be ironed out and we'll end up in a better place than where we are now.

It's time to lose this wild west, only thinking of me mentality. I find it amusing that when there's some sort of national event like 9/11 we're all expected to ante up and jump on board. But when 45 million of our 'own' don't have proper medical coverage we suddenly go John Wayne and tell everyone to mind their own damn business.

Personal security, protection against man-made and natural calamities and proper and affordable medical care should be mandated rights for all citizens in this country. We are a society that likes to call itself the greatest country on Earth. Maybe we should start backing up those words with real action.

Good comparison with the health and auto insurance. Neither were required in the past. Auto insurance was reasonable all the way up until it became mandatory. How you think its gonna work out with health insurance being mandatory?

People really aren't expected to ante up during a national event. It just always happens that way. Hence why DONATIONS flood in every time.

However affordable health care hasn't been in this country for decades. Forcing people to buy into it isnt going to bring the prices down to the point they are affordable. That train of thought has NEVER worked.

Well when I first had to buy car insurance it was 400 dollars a month. that was because I had a speed contest ticket, knocked down to reckloose driving. Now 15 years later, no tickets and no wrecks, it's 125$ every 6 months. I think that should be the same as healthcare. the more wrecks(injuries) and Tickets(cold/sickness) you get the more you pay right? The ages most prone to injury should pay more right?

No, that's not a good idea. Penalizing people for bad health isn't wise. I'm all for personal responsibility like no smoking or drug use but that's a real slippery slope. If you give these greedy insurance companies any leeway to charge people more for this, they'll invent all kinds of bullshit to get people to pay more.

They already have and they're already penalizing people for bad health.

I agree that things will get ironed out eventually. I just don't have much faith in the powers that be (repub and dem alike) coming together and SOLVING the problems, glitches, shortfalls, or whatever you would like to call them. We haven't had much bipartisanship recently that gives me much hope the iron will get turned on, let alone be put on the plan to smooth things out. I have reservations - but I'm hopeful - we can get this working FOR the American people. Initially I was against any Universal Health Care Plan, but I really think it's time we need to do something about the downward spiral our country is in with regards to healthcare. People CAN still have health care coverage AND the providers CAN still make money.
