Re: This is what happens when you dont know the law.
Too many wanna be fucking lawyers running around. He jay walked which is against the law. Doubt they were going to charge him with anything. Law enforcement uses small petty infractions like this to check ID's and such to see if there is a larger issue at hand.
He was asked to identify himself and did not comply. The told him he was under arrest and he did not comply. They used non lethal force to make his stupid fucking ass comply.
Should have tazed the bitch too for interfering.
I am so sick of this type of shit. You know what I do when a cop asks to see my ID? I give it to him.

that shit about "I´m not giving you my ID because I know the law" is getting out of hand...so now everyone´s a fucking lawyer? Everyone´s a student of the law? Ridiculous. Give ´em your ID and then go on your merry way. Refuse to do that, you´re taking a bigger risk than it is worth.

Go make a video Ray. I would love to see you get tazed as well.
Thinking it is the right thing to do to show your ID when requested by law enforcement seems like a common sense thing to me. Most certainly after I have broke the law.
Nice little follow up for the rest of us little dogs to read.
Florida Police Use Taser To Subdue Jaywalker - ABC News
Officers searched Price's backpack and found brass knuckles, a firearm, pepper spray and a knife, Del Rosso said. The backpack arsenal resulted in an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Price, unlike Peurifoy, did not have a permit to carry a weapon.

Re: This is what happens when you dont know the law.
It's been against the law to jaywalk for quite some time.. It's also been the law that you have to show identification to a peace officer upon request has also been around for some time now.. At least in Texas.
You know, if there weren't so many dumbasses in the world... we wouldn't even need laws.

Re: This is what happens when you dont know the law.
Whether you are required to carry ID or display ID (or otherwise identify yourself) when asked by a Police officer depends on the state you live in. Further the Supreme Court ruled that states laws that force residents to carry ID are unconstitutional.
In Oregon, if asked to provide ID while walking I do not have to provide ID or state my name if I so choose; though I should be prepared to be detained as long as it takes for them to figure that out. If you are driving you MUST provide ID (as it is a verification of your license as well).
I did not watch the video, but if all he did was refuse to show ID, and he was walking, he may well be within his rights depending on the state. If he tried to leave or assault the police, that is a different story.

Re: This is what happens when you dont know the law.
If I know how police react when one refuses to provide ID...then I would make sure I walk with a fuckin law book and read the freaking articles to the officers...people with nothing to do will probably refuse to provide ID...if I´ve got somewhere to be in 10 minutes...I´m not going to get in a pissing contest with the cops that will probably end up hurting me more than benefiting me.
