The National Council is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is funded from private donations, membership dues, corporate sponsors, and special events.
So what's wrong with a privately owned business doing what it feels is right?
Sure, gays don't bother me. But if they want to do what they feel is right. Then they should do it. If people don't like that. Then don't join the scouts and don't let your sons join.ATEXANnHISGUN liked this post

i believe the issue is that the scouts has always been about teaching kids to do whats right. And now their official stance is something which many of the members feel is not right.
Its not as simple as saying just dont join because these people already joined many years ago.moving-target liked this post

Re: Eagle Scouts stand up to the Boy Scouts of America
Maybe nothing at all.
What's wrong with members, in this case the most-honoured members, doing what they feel is right?
It's not like this 501(c)(3) is somehow primordial or necessarily fixed in its constitution. It's not simply a business that sells Scouting, it's a social organization too. The Boy Scouts of America is made up of Scouts. That they would be willing to publicly call-out their own organization, and lobby for change, is encouraging to see.

It's not. I should have highlighted the privately funded part. It's private.
The main body of the Boy Scouts of America feel that homosexuality does not fit into BSA. If members or past members don't agree. Then they can leave or wait it out and become the leaders of Boy Scouts of America and change the policy. But as of now what they say is just being intolerant of intolerance.

Re: Eagle Scouts stand up to the Boy Scouts of America
I saw the privately funded part. A (very small) part of their funding has come from me. It comes from lots of people, many of them Scouts and former-Scouts.
Your advice is that people should shut up and leave, or shut up and wait for change to happen?
Some highly respected members of the organization feel that its official policy is at odds with its own tenets. They fear that the organization which they love and respect is making a mistake. They're speaking up. I respect that.

Or they can let the leaders of Boy Scouts of America know that they don't agree with their policies in a visible, symbolic non-violent protest that lets the leaders know that a group of highly respected Scouts(who also most likely either contribute their time or money to further Scouts) disagree with their policy. You know... like they are doing.
