    It just needs to stop

Aurora heroes: Three who gave their lives - CNN.com

Why do US media outlets have to keep milking this tragedy? It's just so sad and demoralizing when victims have to be turned into pseudo heroes just so they can get a few more miles out of this event. Ever since 9/11 and the wars, every event must have heroes. Yes the victims should be remembered but can't we just keep it somber and stop trying to glamorize these events?

If it bleeds it leads. Welcome to modern day "journalism". Creating the stories since 1999.

I canīt get over people calling people that die, heroes. I am very sorry if it sounds too harsh, I mean no disrespect to the victims of senseless crimes...but I think we owe alot of respect to actual HEROES as well.

Although what these three young men did merits that label.

There's absolutely nothing positive to be gleaned from this event. It was a bad, shitty experience that we need to put behind us and not keep trying to squeeze another dollar out of.

The event is not positive, but to belittle their actions is not positive either. In a split second three guys, and probably more, decided to put their lives on the line to save another. Sounds heroic enough for me.

Nonsense, it's an attempt to monetize this event. Any discourse by the media should be focused on how to prevent events like this from happening. Or better yet, just drop it altogether and let the victim's families have some peace.

I'd rather the media simply report the happening and pertinent ongoing details. Everything else they're doing is purely ratings driven and paramount to sucking, like a parasite, from the pain and suffering of the victims and profiteering from the deranged and disturbed perp.

Leave the "discussion" of how to prevent things like this to people that actually might know something about "preventing" things like this either through legislation or direct action or investigations. Then the media can report on THOSE things and fulfill their roles as reporters instead of founts of useless opinions on matters that they don't know dick about.

There is absolutely NO way to prevent things like this from happening...there are just too many ways people can get their hands on guns and too many crowded, public places people go to. The possibilities are endless when crazies like these set their minds on doing stuff like this. All you have to do is get creative...nobody can stop it.

I think we all agree the fact the media is bullshit. I think we can mostly agree these guys did something split-second, invaluable, and sacrificial.

In this article we have these two things combined. CNN is useless as a true news source, yeah. Who is to say it was not the families that provided the information for the article? I mean, come on, what do you want CNN to report on? Civil wars in Africa, a growing financial crisis, the stagnation of unemployment? Oh wait, they do. Just not in a thorough journalistic manner.

It's a yellow-journalism world we live in my friends. We want sensations. That's why every TV show created in the past 10 years is "reality" TV with nice little montages and music. Bread and circuses. We're entertained, we are complacent, and those that aren't... don't have a way to express themselves.

    It sucks. Such is life

And I agree with this. Which is one of the further frustrating idiocies perpetrated by the media. There is virtually zero chance of stopping a determined individual from killing lots of people if they so choose.

Humans are fragile. We die easily. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how to inflict large numbers of casualties or fatalities.

Crowded street/plaza and heavy vehicle = Squish
Crowded street/plaza/business and household cleaning supplies = Mass asphyxiations
    etc etc

Examples of these, or things like these, having already transpired are trivial to find. No "formal" weapons or training required.

Changing gun laws or knife laws or taser laws or chemical laws etc won't change this in a meaningful way. Look at Britain for example of a virtually "gunless" (or near enough) society and it's right up near the top, globally, for violent crimes. Go figure.
