Is nuclear power the way to go?
New nuclear fuel source would power human race until 5000AD ? The Register
Interesting article on nuclear power and it's sustainability. The question is will the powers that be allow something like this to happen.

Re: Is nuclear power the way to go?
I say of course nuclear should be the obvious choice. I do have a problem with a statement made at the very beginning of the article though... It says:
Since the Fukushima meltdown - as a result of which, not a single person is set to be measurably harmed by radiation - we know that nuclear power is safe.
To blame the nuclear technology itself for this problem is equally ignorant in my opinion. Solid regulations regarding quality and protection of nuclear facilities are what is needed to keep more Fukushimas from happening.

And the earthquake.
A lot has been done in recent years in the USA to make getting plants up easier. There are now, I think, 5 plant types that are pre-approved for construction, which cuts down on the approval time (obviously). Nuc power is pretty safe, and it lets the powergrids cover for when there are problems with the gas turbine farms. Nuc power is also hella cheaper.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

See now you guys can say that all you want but they did say there was not a single person is set to be measurably harmed by radiation . Which is a false statement. but put that to the side . Yes nuclear is about as safe as we can make it for the time being but it does have some serious drawl backs as well. We should still be looking for a better source.

Problem is that Fukushima was outdated and no one did anything about it...
