Re: Clint Eastwood RNC speech.
Ah, ok, so the Democratic party is "my" party because I agree with them more than the Republicans, even though I still think they are too conservative, but the Republican party isn't "your" party even though you agree with them more than Democrats. Double standards like this make a ton of sense...

Re: Clint Eastwood RNC speech.
I never said so. I have no problem saying I support Democrats over Republicans every time and will often defend Democrats, but by no means do I fully support the party itself. I still think they are more beholden to corporate interests than to the people and I pretty much cannot stand any of the Blue Dog Democrats. I'm pretty significantly to the left of the Democratic party and vote for them because they are usually slightly more liberal than the Republicans. This is also why I support proportional representation systems like MMP so I don't HAVE to do that.

Re: Clint Eastwood RNC speech.
It might surprise you, but I actually oppose the health insurance mandate as it is today, in theory. If there is no public option at least, I feel it is wrong to force people to buy private insurance. It is a conservative policy idea and I'm not a fan. I only support it in practice as it is today because it is a part of a larger package that does many good things. However, overall, I disagree with their stance on health care in general, too. I support Medicare-for-all, and few Democrats actually do. We've gone over taxes in other threads, and I feel they are too soft on them. Financial regulations are nonexistent coming from the Democratic side of the aisle, too. While I felt the bailouts of the banks were necessary, I didn't like how it went down with Democratic backing. Socially, they don't support ending the War on Drugs, legalizing marijuana, or decriminalizing other drugs. They finally, for the first time, put support for gay marriage into their platform, but not all members support it yet. So, as you see, there is quite a bit I disagree with them on.

Re: Clint Eastwood RNC speech.
But like DG said he was funny...not!
He looked sad and decrepit and he was pandering too a bunch of stupid, impressionable people.
Did any real, substantive ideas about how to tackle problems America faces come out of that convention? No, all they got were Mitt and Paul telling more outright lies and Clint attempting to do stand up as his Alzheimer's was setting in. But at least our resident freedom giver found it funny.
It was a bad gig all the way around.
