Re: He knew, and they all lied. For weeks.
From what I saw of that particular set of reports, it was basically a group claiming that they did it. Personally, I don't lend much weight to a terrorist group claiming credit for something, or at least not enough to have someone stand up in front of the American people and say "This is what happened."
What I think happened is that in the very beginning, before much was known, they sent people out with very generic talking points while they worked to figure out just what the fuck happened. Once it became clear what had happened, they still didn't come out and tell everyone because that might have compromised intelligence assets (possible undercover people). Now that some time has passed and precautions have presumably been taken, more information is being released. I think the timing of the election had something to do with just how generic the early talking points were (I.E. taking the already fairly bland talking points the CIA and FBI approved and making them even more generic).
I don't really see a massive conspiracy/cover-up. I see a situation where multiple people all made at least small mistakes that ended up tragically costing the lives of 4 Americans. As Civil pointed out in another post, the reports that something like this "might" happen was most likely in a stack of papers with a shit-ton of other things that "might" happen, and this scenario just wasn't given as much credibility as it should've had. It's tragic, it's certainly a mistake, but I don't see the conspiracy.
And Laz, your constant harping about "They lied, they lied" gets tiresome after awhile. Of course they lied. They're politicians and it's a situation that had to do with national security. They're never going to tell us the whole truth, ever. Shit like this, information is released mostly on a need-to-know basis....and this may come as a shock to you, but we don't need to know exactly what happened as it's happening. What they should've said was what someone mentioned pages and pages ago, essentially just saying "We made a mistake somewhere, we're trying to find out exactly what happened and why, and taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again." And that should've been the end of the story.

wait a sec here...are you implying something like this whole situation, involving multiple government agencies, which likely is comprised of a huge tangled web of possibly hundreds, if not thousands, of different people, most likely inundated with mountains of different kinds of "intelligence" to sift through 24/7, that ultimately involved something practically on the other side of the globe, in a few different countries is somehow more complicated than the black-white arguments presented in this internet thread!?

If only we could figure out who that brilliant man was pages ago that said the things you quoted towards the end of your post.
I think you bring up great points, mainly because they are the great points I brought up several pages ago. I too do not think it is a conspiracy, or even a cover-up. I think it was a giant screw up that had to have a political spin put on it. the problem is the spin they put on it, FOR WEEKS, was that a movie was to blame. Did they know with good certainty in hours, days, or weeks that the story about the movie was utter BS? I, like you, don't know for certain, but I would put my money on somewhere between hours and days over weeks, but they kept up the charade for said weeks. Sometimes saying nothing at all, or saying we know nothing, is better than saying, "We know they have WMDs in Iraq, let's go to war!!!"
If they would have just said after a day or two that their initial thought was that it was all tied to the movie, but now they are working on determining exactly what happened, as opposed to we know it was the movie, then most of the cover up BS would have died down from all but the most ardent tin foil hat wearers.

Could be. Also the blasphemy. Probably a longer list than it's comfortable for me to get into just now...

Are we still talking about Bush and his administration lying about 9/11 and Iraq and Afghanistan?
