Actually I remember at one point I wanted to do a research paper on whether or not there was any correlation with drinking and intelligence. A lot of the best artists, authors, poets, etc have had their fare share of trouble with alcohol or substance abuse. The only conclusion I can draw from this, is that intelligent people can see the world around them for what it really is, which can be very depressing.
