I'm not opposed to the idea of using money that should go to public schools to fund private schools, but if that's what's happening then the private schools need to increase their student base to include those who would typically be going to public schools, and also need to teach approved curriculums rather than things like creationism.

The only way I'd even talk about using state money on private schools is if we require, like Morningfrost said, private schools to admit any student who applies and require them to use a state-approved curriculum. I'd even go further and say that if your private school chose to accept these vouchers, that school would have to abide by the separation of church and state. To me, if you remove any one of those criteria, vouchers shouldn't even be a discussion. I definitely think there is room for reform in the education sphere, but the fact that there isn't a noticeable difference leads me to believe a lot also has to do with our culture devaluing education.

I totally agree on your last sentence. Our education system, from pre-k to grad school, is a racket. It is more about making money than developing minds. I would love to see reform in the education system, but much like Congress we have allowed the administrators to have the power to control their own jobs and pay. Stupid system all around.
