    Because the messiah said so?

Never mind the fact that these federal raises are being paid by taxes on the already diminishing wages of the average American.
Yeah lets also not forget about no budget passed and still running at a deficit.

Well that does change my opinion slightly, the fact that it's not an automatic pay raise and you did have qualify for it. Still I don't agree with it. Really my biggest objection to this is the state of our economy and the health of American wages. If this were 2007, I would say go for it, economy is doing well and American wages are increasing so why not give a tax raise to federal employees? But it's not, its 2013 (almost), the economy is staggering and the wages which are taxed to pay for federal wages are in decline. Add in the fact that federal jobs already pay (including benefits) at a higher rate than private sector jobs and I think most people will conclude that these federal wage increases are not justified.

So it is your opinion that hard work, productivity, and saving the taxpayers money should not be rewarded?

Because as Gumby has mentioned it is in essence NOT a raise but an end to a freeze that had a two year time frame. Unfortunately, the time frame concludes during a time of economical anguish. This freeze came into effect in 2010, and was placed to cut back on budget. He could have proposed another freeze, but didn't. So now things will go back to normal for us Federal Employees.

    Re: Pay Raises.

In the real world if your pay goes up its a raise regardless if there was a pay freeze before hand.

Government employees on average are over paid for the duties they perform. However i wouldn't even be opposed to a raise as long as the fed got a budget in place while running without a deficit. If they cant meet those requirements then no they dont get a raise without shit being talked. That being said elected officials that haven't been getting the job done giving themselves a raise is a slap in the face to everyone that pays the taxes their way over priced salary comes from.
