NY Passes tough new gun laws, or is it feel good legislation?

Unbelievably, the anti-gunners debated the Phelps amendment for like 2 hours and finally voted YES on it... Then withdrew ALL other amendments. The original concealed carry (must issue) bill is now the one going forward.

Phelps now has them by the short and curlies. If they balk at that bill Phelps just has to threaten to PULL it, and the June 9 deadline will come and Illinois will get constitutional carry. Meaning we can carry anything anywhere... Of course they may WANT that because it also allows local municipalities to determine how they want to handle it. So Chicago could just say "no concealed carry period" and get away with it. Which is what they want after all. We'll see. June 9 is the drop dead date.

Unbelievable. I wonder how long those guys will stay in office if they unilaterally ban all concealed weapon permits?

Well if it goes through then it's a "shall issue" which means they have to issue if you pass the requirements (live fire training, 80 dollars, etc). If it DOESN'T go through, then it goes constitutional carry and there isn't any requirements... no license... nothing. You can conceal carry, you can open carry... wide open (still need a FOID card to OWN a gun in illinois, but that's another story entirely).

I heard they (Democrats) are trying to get all these measures passed before the official investigation of Newtown comes out where people keep saying the guy only used pistols to kill all those children. But as Obama said, never let a tragedy go to waste. So this gun control stuff gets pushed through because it won't go through any other way.

Bush did the same thing with 9/11... terrorists from Al Qaeda fly planes into buildings? Lets invade Iraq.
