Flat tax has its advantages and disadvantages, but the "Fair Tax" is, I think, far more equitable. It too has its flaws, which I think can be fixed with some creative structuring, but I like it better overall.
The problem with the loopholes is that they are poltical tools politicians use to reward their campaign donors. That's what lobbyists are up on Capitol Hill doing, lobbying for those tax loopholes which are specific to their companies. Every politician does it, on both sides of the isle. But politicians won't eliminate those loopholes for that very reason.

Yeah, there is a whole confusing ass list as what counts as grocery and what doesn't for Maricopa County. Speaking of junk food, it was awesome in Flagstaff they didn't charge tax on food, junk or not xD (I think they might of after a certain point, never figured it exactly out though, just remember buying candy or some soda and not getting taxed).
