One of those issues that you can say you want to cut loopholes and please everyone, but start to try to get specific and it becomes a hotbed issue.
They dont charge sales tax for most food at a grocery store.

Flat tax has its advantages and disadvantages, but the "Fair Tax" is, I think, far more equitable. It too has its flaws, which I think can be fixed with some creative structuring, but I like it better overall.

The problem with the loopholes is that they are poltical tools politicians use to reward their campaign donors. That's what lobbyists are up on Capitol Hill doing, lobbying for those tax loopholes which are specific to their companies. Every politician does it, on both sides of the isle. But politicians won't eliminate those loopholes for that very reason.

depends on where you live, most cities in the phoenix metro area have a tax on food (with the state sales tax coming in depending on what it is). IIRC Mesa is the only one that doesn't charge a tax on grocery.

Really? Man every place i've ever lived had a 0 tax on most food (i believe junk food isnt included)from a grocery store but any non food item was taxed. Learned something new so no one can tell me anything else today.

Yeah, there is a whole confusing ass list as what counts as grocery and what doesn't for Maricopa County. Speaking of junk food, it was awesome in Flagstaff they didn't charge tax on food, junk or not xD (I think they might of after a certain point, never figured it exactly out though, just remember buying candy or some soda and not getting taxed).
