Re: Authoritarian Propaganda
There was an article in the guardian yesterday talking about how China is becoming increasingly frustrated with NK over the whole nuclear thing. So there may be change in that regard.
As for the propaganda piece, I lol'd when I saw it a few days ago. Especially loved the part with NYC and flames/bombs/whatever plus the American pop music.

Re: Authoritarian Propaganda
The size of their army would matter if we fought like we did in the civil war. Seeing as we dont their size will mean 0.
China would never respond directly. Worst case scenario they fight like they did during vietnam. Plus they actually have far more to lose by declaring an active war with the US. Lots of money will disappear. They we also run into having bodies to throw into a fight is not the same as having weapons platforms to use in a fight. In aircraft alone we dominate china 8 to 1. On top of that we are the only ones with the ability to move troops, equipment, and supplies in mass quantity. So their best bet is to sit back and let us come to them which of course would be strategic air and missile strikes first.
Now moving to nukes. Unlike some weapon systems nukes do not arm until they are near their target. Even if they cant reach us our weapon systems, SK's weapon systems, and japans weapons systems can reach their nukes before they have the ability to arm. Unless they attempt a hot fire launch which is a bad idea altogether. China however is not crazy like a few other countries we all know. As such they will NEVER fire off a nuclear weapon because they also know it means the end of them as well.
I agree that sooner or later this is going to go down unless someone offs the bat shit crazy leader and puts someone in office that has a bit of common sense.

Re: Authoritarian Propaganda
Also, remember, the US borrows 40 cents of every dollar it spends, from China. That means China has us by the balls, but unless they're willing to lose all that money, they have a vested interest in our economic health. War between us is unlikely in the near future for purely economic reasons.
However the US relationships with S Korea is still good. And without a doubt, every time NK detonates a nuke (3 so far I think), it makes everyone nervous over there... especially Japan. For... reasons.

Re: Authoritarian Propaganda
That's just not even close to being true.
Last I checked, approximately one third of the total debt is held by foreigners (mostly central banks). Of all the foreign-held debt, China has something like a quarter. That works out to be in the range of 8% of US debt.
I won't say that debt and currency issues between the China and the US (and the rest of the world) aren't serious, but let's keep the numbers real.

Re: Authoritarian Propaganda
You are correct. I misread my source. We do however borrow 40 cents of every dollar, just not all of it from China. I can't find the initial source I looked at, but I did find an article from Politifact to corroborate it.
PolitiFact | Kent Conrad said we're borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we spend
