An empty promise is an optimistic way to describe a lie. :-)

Seriously though, they might make it available. Doesn't mean a damned thing will change though. Look at the President's schedule, which is posted daily. Most days he doesn't even have anything on his calendar until after 10am. This is the laziest President I've ever seen, by that token. Transparency allowed that to be revealed but has it changed a damned thing? Heck no. Who is even complaining about the President having like, 4 hours on his schedule each day No one. So much is happening now in the bright light of day, and they are just getting away with all sorts of crap up there in Washington.

So to dre's original post, even if they do make the information available it won't matter anyways because the media will ignore it. At this point the media should just set up a group email inbox so they can receive their talking points from the White House...

I know no one was talking about it. I was using it as an example of how long change can take.

There are lots of other examples. That one sticks out to me as an example because many people are familiar with the history. It wasn't (isn't) only about racism either.

Trying to improve "Government Transparency" is enormously difficult. It's not just a political problem. There are business interests. Lack of transparency is very profitable for a few. There are national security issues (though I'd guess fewer than the national security people would have us believe). There are plain ol' bureaucratic issues (change is a pain in the ass, and there is resistance to it no matter who is in office). There are social problems.

Making better government is enormously difficult, and there is almost no upside for the people who have to spend that political capital. "The Government Sucks Just A Little Bit Less, You're Welcome" isn't a very good campaign slogan.

Anyway, whether or not the current guy is serious about it, I support the idea.

    Cheers,

Bolded the crux of my point. Everything else arguing about "it'll never and laziness and fishing" is wasted bytes

I would have to disagree. Its not enormously difficult. All we need are people in office not making 10 times their salary from outside sources. So in fact all we need is 1 law with the strictest of enforcement and the problem can be solved.

Re: Public access to publicly funded research

Here's some publicly funded research made available just from a current event posting.
Eagleworks Laboratories: Advanced Propulsion Physics Research

It happens (albeit infrequently) regardless of administration. I simply want to see more of it.

I support the idea too. It is hard not to be jaded in these matters.
