I saw this last week and my reaction was about the same. The direction we are headed is pretty sad.

Schools do this shit all the time. A student stands up and does the right thing but because it breaks a rule he or she is punished for it. It's really about them looking good and saying hey we are still in control because we can do this here look.

My take was that the suspension was considered SOP, so that they can investigate and find out exactly what happened. Anybody "involved" would be suspended.

If that's not the case, then indeed, wtf?

Seems like we are supposed to train our kids to be good little victims nowadays. Sad.

    Re: Unbelievable

As messed up as this is, I thought the story at the end of the article was more disturbing than than main story.

In mid-February, a seven-year-old boy in Loveland, Colorado was suspended from school after he entertained himself by throwing an imaginary grenade at a box that he had peopled with equally imaginary bad guys. According to Mary Blair Elementary School, the boy broke the school’s rigid rule against pretend weapons and pretend fighting. One assumes that those activities take the children’s attention away from the pretend learning that goes on in too many American public schools.
So, I guess imagination and creativity is gone from our society now. If growing up I didn't do stuff like this in school with my friends, I'd be a no one with no skills and no potential. I equate all the imaginative story lines and play stuff that I did with buddies in the school yard to my love of (and skill in)writing. Without having to use my mind like that back then I may never have figured out the types of things I could do with it today.

Just limiting this kid's future. :/
