Re: Creation vs. Evolution - A new look at an old argument
Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, but it seemed to me that his main point, his "ultimate proof", was that he uses the Bible as his ultimate "litmus test", so to speak. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really find that to be a convincing argument.
To me the most compelling piece of evidence he gave was the bit about the comets, however there's no way to know just how long the comets in question have been around. It's not just a question of that theoretical cloud outside the solar system, but many comets could have simply traveled to our solar system from other solar systems, in journeys that take thousands upon thousands of years. From what his own evidence states, a comet's "lifespan" is determined by gravitational pull and the effects of stars. If these comets are traveling between solar systems without any nearby gravitational forces or stars reducing their "lifespan", they would theoretically last until they hit a solar system.

Re: Creation vs. Evolution - A new look at an old argument
I made an assumption too: that if part 1 of 4 was 15 minutes long, then the whole thing would be an hour.
Further, I assumed that watching any of it was very unlikely to be the best use of an hour of my time on a Saturday.
I'm not ashamed of assuming either of these things.
I was also prepared to check back into this forum and see a variety of posters (representing a variety of positions) gush over how wonderful the whole thing was and how it had a completely new take on theology or the interaction between faith and observation. I was totally prepared to have my assumption be wrong and to then spend a little time checking it out.
Completely prepared for that.
I'm prepared for lots of things which are very unlikely.
My mind isn't set in concrete. I love having my assumptions be wrong - because as soon as I get over feeling like a bonehead, I learn something new.
But the reviews so far aren't encouraging.
Cheers,

It's cool. I think watching these kinds of videos, whether you have an hour to burn on a random Saturday in March or not, is just an interesting viewpoint to a debatable alternative. I found some of his assumptions to be intriguing regardless. Either way, I was just pointing out that making an assumption about the context of this guys' opinion, without having actually watched the whole thing seems... premature. Whether or not its worth someones time to actually watch all of it, is, of course, debatable.
