Re: Three Morons Get What They Dont Expect
I never understood that law. So if you're carrying a gun you're required by law to hide it? Here in AZ, up until a few years ago you needed to get a concealed weapons permit in order to hide it. So if you had a gun and did not have the permit, you were required by law that it be completely visible, which makes sense.
i.e. A cop approaches someone because they're doing something they shouldn't be. Police officers cannot search the person, but they are allowed to pat someone down for weapons. So if the cop pats down a suspect and finds that he has a gun concealed under his shirt, then that person could be arrested if they don't have a concealed weapons permit. Why? Because if you had no ill intent and were legally allowed to carry it (non convict) then why would you be concealing it?
Either way, they retracted the concealed weapons law a few years ago. So you can conceal it if you want, but you're also allowed to open carry.

Re: Three Morons Get What They Dont Expect
Openly displaying a gun is provocative.
I don't have concrete feelings one way or the other about carrying or not, concealed or not, registrations and restrictions. I think that responsible behaviour is situational, and it's probably impossible to encode all of that in law (though I suppose we're gonna need at least a few laws one way or the other).
But I can see an argument that carrying concealed is better than open.

Re: Three Morons Get What They Dont Expect
Never thought of it that way. When I see people carrying openly I don't feel threatened or take it to be provocative. I just think well he's openly carrying it, obviously someone with ill intent wouldn't be carrying it so blatantly. I would be much more inclined to feel threatened if I noticed someone concealing their weapon under their shirt. Still I do see how a lot of people interpret openly carrying to be provocative, it's because I am so comfortable around guns that I didn't realize that point of view. As you do, I don't have concrete feelings either way. I'm a big supporter of the 2nd amendment, citizens should always have the right to carry their gun on them. I support open carry but not so adamantly as the right to carry itself.
Also these idiots are only hurting their cause. The 2nd amendment secures our right to own guns but the states can still pass laws restricting our right to openly carry them, as many have done. I could easily see these videos going viral in their state, being shown on the local news, and support from concerned citizens being rallied to end people's ability to do this. It would be hilarious if they passed new legislation in their state doing away with open carry because of these videos. You probably wouldn't be welcomed at the gun club anymore. I think they would be more angry with you then anyone, because you didn't exercise the right in a responsible manner and one which actually warranted it. You did it solely to prove a point knowing it would cause havoc, you did it with the purpose of causing a scene and provoking police officers. You abused the right and as a result the right to open carry was taken away from everyone.
The courts have ruled that the right to open carry is not protected by the 2nd amendment. Many states including Texas of all states do not allow it. Considering that you could easily lose this right, you would have to be very stupid to pull a stunt like this . I'm not saying that I want them to lose that right, I'm just saying it would be hilariously ironic if they did.
