Re: SCOTUS decides on Prop 8 :D
I won't say such a thing is common, but it certainly exists.
I have been in that situation. I took a job that didn't offer insurance. At the time, and not being in a risk pool, the cost for me to carry even basic medical was astronomical. I went without coverage for a while, but still went to see my doctor when I needed to.
I paid for everything.
If I had been married, my medical insurance would have been less. Same for car insurance.
Having one example (me) isn't very good evidence. I know of others who have done the same thing. I don't know how common the experience is, but it's not unusual for someone to not be able to afford insurance.
Cheers,

Can you add someone to your policy without them being a spouse or child? I cant.
Are healthcare costs more expensive or less expensive when you have insurance? More.
I currently have Cigna (not the best), and I pay out of pocket about $165/month and it would be double that to add a spouse. My gf pays $225/month through UHC. That is 60/month in savings if we were married and under my plan. She also pays $50/month for prescriptions which would ve free under my plan. Her copays are also twice as much as mine for each visit. Like I sais our annual savings would be roughly $1500.
Now imagine she didnt have a job that offered insurance benefits. The savings could be well into the thousands, just for one of her meds.

And I am not missing the point. We have the means to pay for the medical expenses either way. We arent poor and we pay our bills. That doesnt mean it isnt cheaper for a married couple.
Most married couples I know decide.which health plan is the most affordable and will suit their needs an both go on that one instead of two independent plans. It is smarter and saves money. If you arent married, you cant do it.

And you dont need to concede on medical. It isnt a debate when we are diavussing facts and actual dollar figures. I told you what I pay and what I would save if we.were married and both on my plan.
