    Re: Our saviors answer.

Since 2010 my annual salary has increased over 9,000 dollars yet I make only 6 dollars more a pay check, and these are hard figures that don't include CPI. I blame the medical and retirement systems for this.

I believe the recession is over. People have been losing their jobs, homes, and cars long before the recession. People aren't losing jobs because of the recession, they're losing jobs because this country is losing it's focus on exports.

I'll always remember a quote by one of my professors; "Soon there will be a factory with two employees, a man and a dog. The man's job is to feed the dog and the dog's job is to guard the machine." Some sad shit when you think about it.

But then there will be jobs to make replacement parts for the machine... mechanical engineers to keep the machine running... electronics engineers to keep the electronics in working order... Software engineers to program the machine...

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

It's a known fallacy to believe that technology doesn't rid the world of jobs. There are several measures of diminishing returns and economies of scale that prove this. The more and more technology advances the more jobs are lost. The jobs that exist are moved to countries like India and they pay 20k equivalent US to do things like create schematics, read MRI scans, design our networks, and even create 2500 dollar cars.

Take a look at the Olive farms of Hawaii in which a 1000 tree farm could support a family with ease. Now, this is not possible, the economies of scale and globalization are taking jobs away from America and other power countries. You can blame the WTO and other countries that control the trade.

The real issue here is that we have people taking out student loans for jobs that will be outsourced. These people will have to retrain and the cycle starts over again. The middle class jobs in this country have already shipped for the most part. We don't have towns or cities in which mills or factories are the prime source of revenue. These jobs used to be the home for the middle class and now the WTO has shifted priorities to China, India, and Southern Africa.

We are currently the only country that has a lower GDP than exports..

It could just be my perspective but i dont count a recession over just because numbers stopped going down. Yeah people have always lost homes and so forth but not at the level that is still going on. I especially have a hard time letting a group of people that didnt even begin to feel a single bit of it tell me its over. Jesus they didnt even see it coming or when it started so were suppose to believe they knew when it was over? Not in this life time.

I understand your standpoint but I really think the issue relates more towards the shift in globalization and direct investments from foreign companies.

I understand that. And it will take a lot less people to maintain the machine than it would to crank out the widgets that the manual laborers would have been creating. And the salaries for the skilled laborers doing that maintenance will be much higher than the manual laoborers.

But there ARE some jobs that do rise up to fill some of the void.

That couldn't be farther from reality. Parts for machines are already made by other machines. Salaries do not go up as jobs become fewer. Employers know there is a surplus of workers filling a few positions. That is one of the problems we have right now. Another is employers knowing people will do what they have to in order to keep that check coming in. Thats why 1 person is doing what 2 or 3 use to do.
