The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, creates a new "ammunition eligibility certificate," imposes immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales, and extends the state's assault weapons ban to 100 new types of firearms and requires that a weapon have only one of several features in order to be banned.
This is the only thing that bothers me. I did a quick search but didn't really see anything laid out as to what the "features" are that would make a weapon bannable.

That being said, while it eases the minds of some, banning high capacity magazines isn't going to stop incidents like what happened. Only difference it will make is the time it will take him to reload, so MAYBE he'll take a couple less lives. Less lives taken....great...but it doesn't do shit about ridding the root of the issue.

In my mind the goal of a gun law should be to maximize the chances of these events NOT happening again, while having very LITTLE negative effect on law abiding citizen's rights. Laws like the one in this thread only accomplish the former. It does nothing to prevent crazy, unstable individuals from killing innocent people.
