Re: Maybe it's the beer.........
I loved this comment from that link.
"Maybe being a statesider my 11 years doesn't give me the same perspective here, but exactly how was this disrespectful? The war's long done and over with. Vietnam, last I checked, isn't a hostile nation. We fought them, sure, and they fought us, people invading their country (for the French, of all places). We also fought the British, the Germans, the Japanese... ourselves. Should we still be harboring ill will towards the people of those countries? As for the show itself, this isn't Hanoi Jane handing over notes from POWs that lead to their deaths or severe maiming while an action is going on. These kids weren't singing anti-American defamation, they were singing a song celebrating their own country. Much like we do of our own. They saw the wreckage of a B-52. Was anything said about "the evil Americans and their death machines"?
Maybe they could have done things better. Maybe not. It's a TV show. They do their thing. We do ours'. Teaching those around us the meaning behind these things. The people that died for a cause. The innocents that died because of a cause. The horrors of these wars and why we should be striving toward a world that no longer sheds its own blood, not harboring hatred for those tossed into a brutal action not of their own choosing.
Or is that anti-American propaganda as well?"SmokenScion, Red_Lizard2 liked this post

"People invading their country". Awesome. Hilarious in it's simplistic analysis of that era. So now the war in Vietnam was all our fault? I think the anti-American propaganda is right there in the comment itself, and you picked it right out and loved it (as well as some others who "liked" your comment).
Seems like maybe President Obama should feel that way about Afghanistan or Iraq, or Libya, or Syria, or (there I said it) the United States of America... But he doesn't. So I guess those conflicts were our fault too? Maybe 9/11 and the Boston Bombings were our own damned fault as well, while we're at it. Oh well, nothing ever changes does it?

Ray Morris · Tampa, FloridaI was there three times, and not as a tourist. And yeah, there are some people who will not find this offensive. The sad part is, they don't have a clue why the rest of us do.
