Republican Texas judge orders lesbian couple to live apart or lose children | The Raw Story
A Republican Texas Judge has ordered a lesbian couple to live apart or give up custody of their children. According to Think Progress, Judge John Roach of McKinney, Texas has given Page Price 30 days to move out of the home she shares with Carolyn Compton and Compton’s two children from a previous marriage because he does not approve of Compton and Price’s “lifestyle.”

I dunno what the big deal is. This clause is in divorce decrees all the time. It applies to anyone, sex is not the issue. The idea is that kids need stability in their lives and it is designed to prevent a parent from putting their kids in a position of having rotating significant others rolling in and out of their lives. So.... Why attack or vilify Judge Roach? He is applying the law exactly, which is what I would want any judge to do.
If the legislature wants to legalize gay marriage then they can do that and these two can get married. If not, well that's the law, and them's the breaks.
Guys get screwed over so often in divorce court when it comes to kids, this almost feels like equal rights... Ok that last comment was a joke... :-)

compton said that she and Price have been together for three years. Compton’s ex-husband rarely bothers to see the children and was previously arrested on charges of third-degree felony stalking in 2011, charges that he was able to plea down to criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor. In a post on Facebook, Price wrote that Roach had inserted the morality clause into the divorce agreement when Compton’s ex-husband Joshua Compton attempted to gain custody of the children in 2011. The judge wrote that he disapproved of the two women’s “lifestyle.”

Re: oh texas
just because he disproves of the lifestyle doesn't mean the law was incorrectly enforced. all the rest you put moving is irrelevant. the clause is there, it is legally binding and he is enforcing the law. she didn't object to the judge putting the clause in when it happened to serve her needs at the time...now that it is back firing against her she wants it gone.... tough shit.

As per the letter of the law and the clause in her divorce papers, the judge ruled correctly. So they should travel to a state where homosexuals can marry and get hitched. Then they can show that they fulfill Texas common law marriage rules (except for the homosexual part), have a marriage certificate from the other state, and fight this all the way to the SCOTUS. I wish Texas would practice what we preach about the government staying out of people's lives so that things like homosexual marriage and recreational drugs and other things that only impact the consenting adults involved were legal. I am not gay, I don't do drugs, and I have a very normal family life. But as a Texas voter, I hate that we are such busybodies that we waste time and money on this stuff.

The funniest line in there is when they say:
"Courts often insert the clauses without telling the people involved, particularly in backward, conservative areas like Collin County, Texas."
Collin county is (I think) the wealthiest county in the state, with two of the fastest growing cities in the country. It is incredibly affluent and something like 90% of High School graduates in Collin County go to college. I would hardly call it "backwards". LOL
As far as a morality clause being inserted without the people involved knowing, that is ridiculous, unless the people involved are illiterate. The odds of that are nigh on impossible in Collin County.
If I had to guess, this chick probably left her husband for a woman, and the husband fought in court for custody of the kids (in which case many times both parents are complete douchebags in court and accuse each other of being all kinds of immoral), and the judge put a morality clause in place.

I am going to post this, hoping that I don't seriously offend anyone...
Collin County
Collin County Demographics - Census Data for Collin County, TX
Dallas County
Dallas County Demographics - Census Data for Dallas County, TX
The population of Collin County is 63.1% white, compared to 33.1% in Dallas County. The poverty rate in Collin County is 6.9%, compared to 17.6% in Dallas county. The Median household income in Collin County is $80,504, compared to $47,974 in Dallas county.
Basically, this is where the "rich white folks" live. Conservative area would be dead on. "Backwards" might be a bit harsh, but I am absolutely sure that county could not be labeled as "progressive". While they may be wealthy, they don't really have any reason to support any sort of "change". I think this is a perfect example of the "conservative bubble". Rich town, well educated, but also far separated from reality.
And trust me, I live in Florida. The town I live in is filled with white retirees and is actually 89% white with a median age of 44.16 years.

They are often disconnected with what the working class people experience in their lives because they sit in their paid for home enjoying their lives, complaining about things they see on the news without actually having to experience life for themselves. I wouldn't call my county "progressive" either. I have some major complaints about where I live, but the good outweighs the bad. I just try to make sure my voice is heard by attending community meetings to vote down the ridiculous rules these people try to pass.Last edited by HeavyG; 05-22-13 at 03:58 AM.

Re: oh texas
Collin County also has the most "new money" in the North Texas area. Did it ever occur to you that many, many of these people were once working class joes who worked their asses off to get what they have? I'm sorry but saying there aren't enough non-white people so the people who live here must be out of touch is just, well, simplistic and silly if you ask me. As for your town in Florida I think you need to remember that life experience trumps simply being non-white or poor every time. I would suggest that you make conversation with some of these old folks, find out what they did before they lived where you are. You might be surprised how many former police officers, firefighters, cab drivers, etc. you find.
