Anyway...I was surprised by the doc. because itīs from the BBC. I thought itīd be a Murriicaaaaa, UK!!!, Freedom, Liberty!!!! Democracy for ALL!! kinda documentary...but it is refreshingly unbiased for the most part...thatīs why itīs a pretty good doc.

I watched them; if any good has come from our presence in the middle east, it is the rise of the Kurdish people. During Saddam's regime he killed tens of thousands of Kurds in an attempt to rid their presence in the country. Today the Kurdish people are the largest ethnic group without a geographic state. Since the fall of Saddam they have thrived. I watched a documentary which showed American-like suburbs in northern Iraq where the Kurdish people dominate the population. The Kurdish are very pro American; they look to Israel as an example of what is possible. Like Israel, the Kurds have hopes of establishing their own independent state, in northern Iraq. This would be good for the US, it would be another strong alliance with a country in the middle east.

    Re: The Iraq War

I also wasn't aware of how well Northern Iraq was doing after the invasion of the country. I met a few Kurds at my law school in January. On one occasion we were discussing Americas invasion of Iraq and they told me about the oppression of the Kurdish people from Saddam Hussein. They didn't really go into much detail, but when I got home I began researching it.

I couldn't believe that after all of the documentaries that I have watched on Americas invasion of Iraq, I was not aware of the benefit to the Kurdish people. Even in the media, you would think that they would emphasize this as support for the war. Here is an interview with the leader of the Kurdish region; the interview gives some insight on their plans. They look to Israel as an example of how a small country can still defend itself from neighboring countries; they also hope to become in independent state in the future.

Also, Kurds are very pro American. My friend visited the country a few months ago and she sent me a picture of the inside of the cab she got in. All of the interior of the cab was made up of American flag upholstery. I guess people tend to have favorable outlook on your country when you remove a ruthless dictator who committed countless acts of genocide on their people.

Very interesting, I was still in elementary-middle school when most of this went down so I never really understood it back then.
