Oh I absolutely agree that the modern media spins stories. I am just annoyed that the article spins the story in a way that promotes civil war as an agreeable option. The story could have spun it to the British or colonials and still used modern language. It spins it for people who will make a connection to their current beliefs. It could have been spun to be pro-colonial and ALL of us would sympathize. It is a call to arms, not an interesting little demonstration of modern media spin; it IS modern media spin.

I think we look at it from a different perspective then. It sounds like you look at it from the perspective of the article using the civil war as an ideal we should strive for today. I view it as them saying we look at the civil war with reverence, but if it carried out today we would view it as some political plot line.It is not, in my opinion, a modern day call to arms, but a call to better journalism and media.

You are also more sympathetic to their cause; yes they have a cause.

Let's start by saying we could use language that states: Colonial freedom-fighters clashing against British occupying forces.

Instead of saying "Right-wing" they could say "colonial-freedom fighters" or "colonial citizens angered by taxation without representation".

They could say: "ban on firearms necessary for personal defense and survival in the new-world's frontier".

But they CHOSE to spin it as Right-wing good guys versus left-wing bad guys for a reason. The source of the article is extremely right-wing and delves far into tin-foil hat territory. Just browse their site: secretsofthefed.com Hover over the "news" section alone and look at the types of news. This article puts an important historical event to ALL Americans into their extremely biased perspective: It is jamming a square peg into a round hole. It IS extreme right-wing propaganda. The reason you see it only as a demonstration of spin is because you subscribe to their side of the line, yet certainly not as far as promoting a civil war. Their site promotes Right-wing citizens to rise against the fascist, left-wing government (as if ... we are still so far right of the line in world perspective); as is illustrated by this article by this article alone, in a violent manner. Try some of their other articles, this is one of many. Again: This is not an illustration of media spin, except that it is media spin.

I don't disagree with it being right wing spin. I guess I just differ in opinion on what the goal or objective of the spin is.

Re: This is what today's news does to a story...

So I have been researching this article. THe first thing I noticed is that none of the sites posting it say it is meant to demonstrate how modern media spins things. Second, every site posting it is affiliated with right-wing/libertarian propaganda or very focused on the second amendment. Third, the comments left either are in support of the article saying things like "history is going to repeat itself" or in general saying we need to learn a lesson from and not support gun control; the other comments are similar to my take on it that it is an extremely un-American piece of propaganda.

I found the Author: Tyler D. Palmer. Here are his words on it's purpose:

All of this transpired on April the 19th and 20th, in the year 1775.
You can tell it takes about the entire article to tell that it is just a recount of what happened.
Hopefully you’ll see now that these Libertarians/Extremists aren’t so extreme after all.
    They’re actually pretty logical.
That whole “Constitution” thing might have worked; if we would only just give it a whirl.

DO SOMETHING, before its considered “an act of terror!”

I did not provide a link because MOST sites showing this article (thousands of them) have this attached to the bottom. Just google "72 killed in boston".

    It is anti-gun control propaganda.

No. The language of the article does that. He also says: "DO SOMETHING, before it's "an act of terrorism" after he says to run for office. I strongly disagree with his portrayal of our armed forces as bad guys on our soil and putting it as an issue between parties and the big-bad-government. The British occupation of the colonies is not comparable and it is highly inflammatory to make that comparison.

I own several guns. One of them is a Mini-14 with a tactical kit; I am not worried about it being confiscated in my lifetime. there are so many guns on the streets that by the time any legislation happens to remove it from me we likely will have hit a point where our gun-crime and violent crime in general matches that of the rest of the industrialized nations and I won't need to worry about it in any case. I am sure removal of firearms will start by taking them out of criminal hands (as most of the gun-control legislation I as a responsible gun-owner support aims to do). There is no good reason they should be so easy to get. Keep yours locked up, once it get's stolen it get's used for criminal purposes. The "history lesson" the article promotes is not what we are experiencing today by a long-shot.

I guess we will agree to disagree. I view it much like other political humor, and not a call to literal arms.
