Honestly I think the whole "individual freedom vs bigger more intrusive government" is false dichotomy. Both sides just want to mold the government to fit their desires and appeal to their bases. The sooner we recognize that sooner we can start having better discussions on WHY the government should or should not be involved in a particular issue.

It's a reason that people like me that do believe in individual freedoms don't vote for Team Fat Elephant. I do believe in the ideals they like to promote such as rugged individualism, teaching people to fish, freedom from over regulation. But they are too in bed with the Religious Wrong to truly believe in those freedoms, they aren't willing to pay for the fishing lessons, and only promote deregulation to benefit their corporate masters instead of small businesses and us peons for me to ever vote for them.
