Having lived through an actual coup, let me tell you that ANYTHING that´s reported in the international news, supporting either side...even the craziest of stories, will be believed by many many people around the world. I´d just like to highlight that because I think it´s really difficult to know who´s at fault here.

People will usually take sides immediately. For example, if the news says there was a coup in Honduras of a commy, dictatorial president, most people with side with the usurpers. And immediately after news breaks out, both sides will begin to spin the wheels of propaganda and then everything gets murky.

Your example is wrong, because if there were a coup in Honduras....no one would care. If a tree falls in the woods, does anyone care? Same principle applies to Honduras
