Possible change of tack in International response to Syria

The other thread was over-flowing with unrelated junk.

New developments on Syria: Russia appears to be stepping up to the plate to handle their mess - we shall see.

Syria positive about giving up chemical weapons

I saw that news and I think it would be great if Russia could get it done. They are taking a huge weight on their shoulders. I just can't help but think of a worst case scenario: If they get this deal done, and promise to keep control of the chemical weapons... and somehow they are used again... what a fucking disaster that would be. I do actually think Russia has good intentions here and they want to cover their ass as well. I think it would be a good thing for the United States if Russia steps in and takes some responsibility.

    Everyone has their messes:
    -China has North Korea
-Russia has its nefarious arms deals with everyone (Syria, Iran, etc)
-US has Israel, Egypt, Afghanistan/Iraq, etc.

I actually see this as Russia calling out Kerry and the U.S. on a bluff. Russia taking lead on this ensures that the U.S. can't manipulate a result by the end of the week, and puts Russia in the driver's seat on confirming results, especially if the rebels attack using chemical weapons again.. I doubt seriously that Kerry was speaking with any sincerity when he called for Syria to give up its chemical weapons. I think the goal was to get some other reason besides the fake assumption that Assad's regime did that attack in order to justify a U.S. invasion of Syria.

Oh and if you don't think there would be boots on the ground, why is the USS San Antonio, an amphibious assault ship with 800 Marines on board off the coast of Syria right now? And why are U.S. troops massed on the Syrian border? Hmmm?

Our version of saber rattling. Show of force.

But who knows... maybe we would walk in there and end shit in a hurry. I doubt it though.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

800 Marines are not massed troops.

All of Syria versus 800 Marines might be a bit of an unfair fight, but the Marines would take weekends off to even it up a bit.
