Yeah, except for one questionable line, which he explained, his stance is completely understandable and extremely common. Most Americans think that Thomas Jefferson was a good man, even though he was a slave owner who possibly raped his slaves. You can't apply today's morals to people in different eras.

Re: Atheist leader?
I would also question just what we're discussing when speaking of "mild" pedophilia, because that could refer to cases of statutory rape. Maybe it's just me, and maybe my morality is fucked, but I have a hard time condemning someone because they turned 18 before their significant other.
And Laz, as for finding it hard to believe that some Athiests haven't heard about Richard Dawkins....until this very thread I had absolutely no idea who the fuck he was, and still don't other than what's been said in this thread. Why not? Cause frankly I don't give a fuck about what "prominent Athiests" say or what viewpoints they express. Maybe it's because I consider myself Agnostic rather than Athiest, or maybe it's because I don't spend my time researching my "belief" of non-belief. Either way, I still don't really know who he is (other than that he's a "prominent Athiest") and could probably care less than I do right now....but I'd have to really work at it lol.

Re: Atheist leader?
It honestly does lol. I mean, just wtf is "mild" pedophilia? To me something is either pedophilia, or it's not. And I'd classify it the same way Potter Stewart did when speaking about hardcore pornography....that I may not be able to exactly define it, but I'll know it when I see it. I mean yeah, there are pretty clear-cut cases that are easy to define, but with the laws we currently have there's also some grey area (such as statutory rape, which is inconsistently applied, at best).

Imo, pedophilia is anything prepubescent and sexual in nature.

I don't think that's a specific enough definition. By that one, two 14 year old kids snogging would be pedophiles.
But it's irrelevant to this thread. This thread is about the OP trying to spin what a "prominent atheist" said into an accusation that all atheists are fine with a little mild pedophilia. And that's offensive for the sake of being offensive.
BTW, the only "prominent atheist" I knew before this thread is Penn Gillette. But he had no influence on my deconversion. That was all me. You can only really get to the truth on your own. I did enjoy his complete schooling of Pierce Morgan on the subject though.
