Also, a $1000 deductible sounds a little high to me for a work provided plan, but then I've almost always had $0 deductible plans through my work. The problem I have with a plan like that is that a young healthy person would really almost be better off with no insurance and paying out of pocket for preventive care. But of course the reason to have insurance is in case of emergency you're covered. I suppose it really would depend on your lifestyle and the amount of risks you take. I mean, if you as a young person saved $3k per year instead of dumping it into insurance, that would allow you to make that money work for you and grow, rather than giving it to someone else as profit. If you have an emergency, you tap into those saved funds to pay for it. If you don't, then BONUS, you have $3k per year saved up already. Of course this assumes younger people would have the discipline to do this. I could turn $3k savings per year into a shitload of money in 10 years, just saying.

And now with obamacare, if you develop a serious chronic illness (cancer, whatever) that makes it worthwhile to have insurance, you really only have to get to the next enrollment period on your own, and then obamacare foots the bill from there with an insurance plan. Or you could make sure you have a qualifying event (marriage, pregnancy, etc.), and you could sign up for care right then. This is what people like me are afraid smart people like you are really do with this benefit... You have to admit that if that happens, the result would be catastrophic for the insurance industry.

I think I might start a marriage matching service for medical patients who need immediate care during the non-enrollment period. Instant Obama gonna care for anyone who wants it, you just get married, which allows you to enroll immediately, and then later get a quickie divorce... For a small fee we'll do it all for you! :-)

Think that won't happen? Just wait and see. lol
No, I don't qualify for any subsidies. This plan would cost me about 3% of my income, which I think is fine for peace of mind sake. As for my current work insurance, it isn't awful. I used to have AvMed, and it was great, but now I am with Cigna as of 2013 and all costs have increased by going to this plan, but I was given this choice or with an HSA. For many young people it makes sense to do HSA but as I mentioned, I actually use my health insurance, and having the peace of mind means more to me than saving a grand or two. Again, I may be better off than some and my situation may differ from other citizens.

Interesting take on what would have made it better from the get go. However, the word transparency has little meaning to this administration outside of a sales pitch for votes.

I'd never noticed that contempt for transparency was more an affliction of either side of any line that tends to get drawn in Washington.

    Cheers,

Interesting article. One thing you should know in case some of you were thinking the problems were related to Web traffic (which apparently a lot of people believe)... They were not. I have specific knowledge and can't go into more detail regarding this, but the bottom line is that any problems were strictly related to the application. The platform was not the issue.

I am holding my comments on participation until mid Nov when the first round of numbers come out. That will tell a more accurate story than anyone is slinging today in the media.

Me too. But what I said is absolutely true regarding the traffic; the site was more than equipped to handle it.
