Going off topic a little bit but from what I've seen of AJAM (Al Jazeera America, but I think their Directv 4 letter name is easier to type =p) seems to be pretty objective and typical dry news. Though I haven't caught them when they do some Middle East coverage yet (Al Jazeera has had a bit of a spotty record on some Middle Eastern affairs (Egypt being the latest I remember reading about), generally they are supposed to be pretty objective though).

Washington Journal on C-Span is also decent. It isn't really "news" but they'll have guests on or read some headlines now and then. The fact it is mostly a call-in show though can cause damage to some walls.

Didn't a survey a few years ago find that the most well informed US citizens were actually those who listened to NPR followed by those who watch the Daily Show?

There was, though The Daily show was 3rd on Domestic (2nd on the International questions)
What you know depends on what you watch: People learn most from NPR, Sunday Morning Shows, The Daily Show; least from MSNBC, Fox News
