Re: WTF?
That's part of it too, but not the whole thing. Private companies aren't set-up to be our immigration solutions. We have gov't agencies that are better equipped to handle those with false documents and the like.
From workplace to home life, we need to kill the desire to make the trip. Until we can make this place extremely inhospitable to live and work as an illegal, we will always have a problem. Companies of ALL sizes need to be held accountable, but that isn't the solution in and of itself....it will take more. That is only 8 hours of the day......we need to also take care of the other 16 hours.
We should also make sure that our path to legal citezenship is as streamlined as possible. That is what we want to encourage....not the border jumping BS, as those people make it tougher for the people trying to come here legally.

But the moment the Government goes after Companies whether they are Large or small for hiring illegal immigrants, the GOP will step in and explain how Obama is out to get the American Dream, again.
Oddly this is an argument that cannot be won by either side, as penalties or asylum will be met equally with opposition by either side.
The only solution I can see is to Invade Mexico, and make it a land of Free enterprise with no penalties for anything. That would likely reduce the need/want to come to the USA for anything. It would also open up Mexico for anyone in the US who doesn't like the current climate (read: tyranny).

I agree on all fronts. Yes, major corporations may not directly hire illegals, but one of the first jobs I had was at a distribution center for a large grocery chain. They had workers there that were contract labor from a staffing company, and they were all illegals. INS would come through once a month or so and round up as many as they could, but the very next day they were fully staffed again. These guys made better than minimum wage, but nowhere near what their union counterparts were making. But the big winner was the guys who owned the staffing firm. They were making about 50 cents on the dollar for every man hour worked.
Close all the loopholes. Punish all parties.

Streamline and fix issues with immigration, try to find a way to help/get Mexico to sort their shitty country out. Problem solved. Realistically the first its the most likely, and it will make deportation easier to stomach for many people (my opinion). Agree that punishing smugglers (Coyotes) is better then the people coming here, at least that aren't committing crimes. The issue with punishing some employers, and would be something to be studied (if someone hasn't already) is the effect it'd have on prices of goods. I'm thinking the jobs picking fruit and shit, and like I said be interesting to see a study to see if illegal cheap labor is lowering the prices of those goods, or just making the producers richer.
I also still like a half-crocked idea I had awhile back of some sort of North American version of the EU, in terms of work permit type stuff, not all the other shit they do. Basically allowing someone to work and live in the US, Canada, or Mexico (Maybe some islands or central america could be included?) without going through all shitloads of paperwork for each place. Yes I realize it'd take way more then just that, and differences in laws and getting everyone to work together and all sorts of issues would be massive, but again it is just a very very vague/basic idea *Shrugs*.
