Goes to show how destructive blindly following tradition can be.

Re: We're mediocre! We're mediocre!
1. When did I mention ANY area as being an example of anything? Our educational system is fucked from coast to coast. Never before have we seen a more bloated, ineffective, and inept use of tax dollars. The problem has never been about not enough money. Hell.....now we are handing out ipads like they were chicklets around here, and the kids are dumber than ever.
2. Who gives a shit about MSU. Mankato State (as it has always been called) is for kids who want to party away from their parents. It's out in the middle of nowhere, and even their hockey team is shitty at best. We could close the entire school down, and with SCSU, UMD and the U of M, we wouldn't miss it.
The problem with schools begins in the home. Throwing more money will do nothing but cost us more money and much more valuable time. We need to encourage a culture of success rather than failure and blame. Until we do that, no amount of money will fix the problem.

Re: We're mediocre! We're mediocre!
I come from a long line of teachers. And while I myself couldn't be a teacher, I've spent many hours around family listening to their diatribes about the education system. My mom is a PhD specializing in teaching teachers how to teach. Alliteration for the win.
Dex has hit the nail on the head. This image is what I'm talking about.
