Demographics are the quantifiable statistics of a given population. Demographics are also used to identify the study of quantifiable subsets within a given population which characterize that population at a specific point in time.
Does that mean people who once smoked a joint, but have not smoked in a few decades, and now might smoke again because of the law are now a new demographic? Meaning that they are a new subset of people who now smoke?

I am telling you that the definition of demographics is not what this topic is about. If you want to discuss that pot is more/less expensive because more/less people are using it then feel free to contribute. If you want to have some nonsensical debate about what those more/less people who are(n't) smoking pot are called then this isn't the topic for it. Same page?

Then i guess your issue is with AE for bringing it to the discussion or possibly the 7 people now talking about it. I also was pretty sure as long as its a civil debate topics are allowed to evolve. Which this thread did before my response to it. Maybe this should be moved to the admin section for further discussion.

Re: It's Here.
Wow, that tangent spun out quickly. Perhaps I can clarify my thoughts.
There is no proof of anything. We're days into a new situation. Also, the demographic I mentioned isn't new. It's speculative. I just made it up.
It wasn't arbitrary though. I thought about some likely explanations for some of what has been reported, and I spliced that into what I've observed concerning the motivations of older people when compared to their younger selves.
My speculation resonated with some other people in the thread, and that was encouraging to me. But it's still just made-up. Maybe it turns out to be the case that our collective imagination about a particular segment of the population isn't far off. That'd be pretty sweet. It's nice to discover that you're not completely out of touch. :)
Anyway, I didn't create a new demo. They create themselves, and eventually someone notices. I do agree with you that categories aren't hard divisions. Do people become (or stop being) stoners, or does the definition of stoner change? Certainly you can't judge that book by its cover. I've seen six- and seven-figure-salary types passing a spliff. I've seen enough cops blowing lines to know that "coke head" isn't only what you see on tv.
But this law is new. We'll all have to wait to find out what happens.
Cheers,

Another claim from some owners is that they're matching out-of-state prices. Some have even said that they're gearing their operations more toward tourists than local consumers. But out-of-state voters didn't approve Amendment 64, and tourism alone won't sustain this industry. Prices will drop sooner rather than later, or the black market that the industry says it's trying to prevent out of state is simply going to thrive in-state — and put the retail shops out of business.
