Re: Closed due to paying customers.
Im gonna go out on a limb and say working in the construction field i deal with more homeless people then the average person. I know the people, i know the game, and i know the reality of what the bulk of them are doing. I've been hiring and firing people for 20 years. I can tell most times when someone is worth the effort and when they aren't. I've given some jobs and watched them crash and burn because that money isn't for getting their life back together. Its for that next beer or that next high 99% of the time.
If want to have fun for 5 minutes go find one holding a sign that says will work for food and tell him you have some work for him to do. 9 times out of ten your not gonna get a smile and a thank you.

Re: Closed due to paying customers.
I agree partially with what you said here and truly want it to be 100% fact. All that goes away though every time I drive by a homeless shelter and see hundreds of things that need to be done. Things that only require a little labor by those sitting around smoking cigarets. To me the right path starts there. Hey, I am here for a free meal and a warm bed. After I am fed and rested I will pick up trash or help you move XYZ or whatever. But you do not see that, what you see is those that are already giving also coming to the shelter to do the work as well. A shelter should NEVER be in the need of manual labor but they always seem to be asking for volunteers.

Apparently no one here knows how a homeless shelter works.
At 6am, you are kicked out. To find a job, beg for food, Drugs or whatever..... You can't stay in the shelter during the day. Soo all your "got to the Shelter" logic is Null. You're all wrong.
Also, Volunteer for a soup kitchen once in a while please.

I'd bet you'd be singing a different tune, if some of those homeless people were vets.
Anyway, I'm done debating this with you ...you cannot debate mercy, sympathy, or empathy with someone who doesn't have any and who is proud of it, and who thinks it's ok to lack those character traits. Shocking.I do know that, in fact.

Re: Closed due to paying customers.
Not here when the weather dips. If it gets dangerously cold, no one gets booted. This is why we don't have problems with businesses filling up with people loitering. It's not the responsibility of businesses to become ad-hoc homeless shelters.
And soup kitchens shouldn't need volunteers. If you can hold a tray out for someone to fill it, you sure as Hell can fill someone else's and clean it to boot. The only volunteers needed are counselors, medical, financial, and housing people. Give people the direction and the tools they need to pull themselves up, and you will be doing them a much greater favor.deathgodusmc liked this post
