I agree, and I'm volunteering right now. Here. I also help people in other ways when I can, but it's also a very selfish act. It makes meel feel good to help others feel the same.

But the question was about soup kitchens specifically. I have never volunteered at one. I'd rather wire a house for someone who needs one, which I have done.

I do. There's only one homeless person here where I live...and he knows our family, so he doesn't ask us for stuff. I don't know why.

However, when I go to Lubbock, there are many more and I always try to give them a few bucks. Even if they use the money for stuff other than food. That's on them, I've done my part.

And that's the point. Handing panhandlers money doesn't help them. It helps you. It's also a sure way to guarantee that there will always be panhandlers. Enabling doesn't equal helping. Your heart is in the right place, but there are better ways to channel your help.

But that is ok. You did something, and that is good. One helps where thay can, and if cash is your way, so be it. Maybe next time, go buy some food for them instead. That way, you know they got some nourishment. Or maybe donate a coat, or some gloves, or whatever. Many of these people are addicted to whatever, and their addictions speak louder than their needs. Feed their needs, not their addictions.

No, it does help the ones who actually use it for a meal.

No one person is going to be able to drastically help, unless you're an eccentric millionaire or billionaire and walk up and hand them $20,000. Even that wouldn't help, if they don't know how to spend that money the right way.

As for buying them food...we've done that many times. They can just as easily trade groceries for drugs or cigarettes, as they can buying them with money.

Dont be ridiculous. Of course some of them are vets. Why should i pity them more then someone who didn't serve? There are even more programs in place for vets then there are non vets.

LOL i've done that several times and they get upset everytime. I was walking out of burger king last month with 4 extra double cheeseburgers for the dogs and he asks if he could have a couple bucks to get a cheese burger. So i gave him one of the double cheeseburgers i had in my bag and he got pissed.

Half the problem is your acting like there isnt a long running scam with pan handlers. Shit some of them make 60 grand a year acting like they're homeless.
