Re: Closed due to paying customers.
As do I. I also know first-hand that Unemployment Insurance helps keep your head above water when you need it most. My industry was absolutely decimated for about 3-4 years, and steady jobs were nearly impossible to find. I had to supplement the Unenjoyment with some retirement funds just to make ends meet. Thankfully, I'm back to rebuilding, but without the help of the Unenjoyment, I would be in a much worse situation.
I hear your sentiment, though. I don't have any sympathy for those who abuse any of the safetynet systems......from unemployment ins. to disability benefits to welfare, wherever there is a buck to be stolen, there will be rats who will steal it. There are folks who legitimately need these safety nets, but there are also far too many that abuse the system.
And that is our fault. If we wanted to end that shit, we could do it today. Pass a law that cuts the welfare and housing checks completely off if the recipient gets convicted of a felony. If a single mother who is already on welfare (and all of the housing benefits that come with it) decides to have another child, that burden should be on her and the father of the child rather than Joe Taxpayer. We also need to stop rewarding mothers who kick their childs father to the curb, as well as hold the fathers' of the children accountable for feeding the mouths they helped create. Every child born should have a father who is responsible for the financial burden of that child, and if the mother can't or won't provide the father's identity (which could be easily proved or disproved via dna testing), she doesn't get an extra dime. If dad is also a deadbeat, his child support can come out of his welfare benefits. If that leaves him with not enough to live, I guess it's time to get a job, or use condoms when he wants some action. If the men were held more responsible, and the ladies didn't get extra benefits for having children thay can't afford, we would see fewer babies born into poverty.

From 2009 but still makes the point
It's difficult for ex-felons to find steady jobs even in good economic times, with unemployment rates sometimes as high as 75 percent for those one year out of prison.
Ergo denying safety nets to felons is probably worse then non-felons, being non-felons have a better chance of getting a job. IMO it'd probably help if our prison system was less about "punishment," and more about reform buuttt don't have anything to back that up.
The odds of finding a job decrease the longer people are out of work. A person out of work for eight months will get called for an interview half as often as someone who has been out of work for just one month, even if the resumes are the same, one study has indicated.
Again, reason long-term support can be important (in terms of unemployment). At least Obama had (and no idea how they did it before in fairness) the federal government supposedly stop looking at how long someone has been out of work, which is a good step.
One issue I'm not sure about, I had heard you can't get Welfare if you are in school, which makes sense for young(er) students, not sure if it is true or not. I would think that makes it somewhat harder since you can't go learn a trade or skills as easily you need to get a job, or to switch to an industry needed people to fill jobs (It also seems employers won't train people anymore, wanting experience (often specific experience) for many not shit jobs, which require being able to work in the field before, which it seems no-one is hiring anyone without experience for.)

Could a fooled me with the prejudice generalizations and stereotypes. Maybe it is just the way you are saying things, but you basically wrote off all people that are reduced to begging as well as those collecting unemployment. Say what you mean the first time instead of changing what to what you "meant".
I am sure there are scammers out there, but if you label everyone because of the actions of a few bad people, then I do feel sorry for you.
I feel sorry for the homeless. We threw a dinner party one night downtown, and we had a ton of food left over (dozens of sandwiches, finger foods, and beverages). After the party, we drove by this bridge where a lot of homeless people stay and gave them the food. They were very grateful and polite.
