Kind of related but not entirely. I found a website with a list of satellites and if you click on "whats in my sky" it shows you the location of whats above you. Im sure its an incomplete list but kinda cool.

I thought most imaging came from satellites in low orbits, something like 500 to 1000 km. Geosynch- and geostationary are more like 35,000 km.

    Illusion? Lil' help?

Imagery intelligence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There have been hundreds of reconnaissance satellites launched by dozens of nations since the first years of space exploration. Satellites for imaging intelligence were usually placed in low-earth, high-inclination orbits, sometimes in sun-synchronous orbits. Since the film-return missions were usually short, they could indulge in orbits with low perigees, in the range of 100–200 km, but the more recent CCD-based satellites have been launched into higher orbits, 250–300 km perigee, allowing each to remain in orbit for several years. While the exact resolution and other details of modern spy satellites are classified, some idea of the trade-offs available can be made using simple physics. The formula for the highest possible resolution of an optical system with a circular aperture is given by the Rayleigh criterion:
Sorry to use a wiki link...it's just easier to stay out of trouble that way. 2 main orbits that are in that range are the Low Earth Orbit and the Highly Elliptical Orbit(at perigee). There's quite a bit of info on those if you do a little digging.

    Re: Malaysian Flight

Australians found from debris off one of the coast, though no confirmation it is actually from the plane or not. In general something has to be inaccurate, as it seems every theory so far is fairly unlikely due to a number of reasons (from what I've read about everywhere... I have a bit of a fascination with airplane crashes/disappearances/whatever).
