If you want the administration to be able to pick and choose what they allow and when then that is not a code. We can all speculate on how quickly WE would have made the decision or why, but it's just Monday morning quarterbacking. I agree with their decision to have, and enforce, a dress code. I also agree with their decision to make an exception in this instance. I do however think that it is not as simple as some of you are trying to make it sound to just say, "Yeah, sure, no problem" in a matter of seconds.

@Civil....Would you support a dress code, or any other code that had a zero tolerance policy that tied the hands of those who have to enforce it?
What if that dress code had a no crucifix, or other religious symbols clause? Would you be on-board?
Dress codes are a necessity. In my line of work, it's safety related. In the food biz, it's health related. In schools, it's uniformity, discipline, as well as distraction related. All important. However, there also needs to be some discretion, and in this case, there was none. That's the problem. Not dress codes in general.

What if another kid shaved her head?
What if she said she did it in solidarity with the girl who got suspended?

Following the rules is not the only answer to shit like this and trying to stand behind them is weak. Every boss has discretion. I would have to assume there was a discussion before sending her packing. That is where they failed at their job and sagging pants is beyond a poor comparison.

It was just that easy when I was in school. If you showed-up with something that a teacher or the principal deemed unworthy of classroom attire or a distracting hairstyle, you were either asked to change, or removed. She wouldn't have been suspended at my public High School....most likely, she would have been held up as an example, and praised.
I showed up in black-face one day. lol....
I had to go home and wash it off before I could return. No suspension. Discretion was used, as well as soap.
