Girl Banned from School After Shaving Head to Support Friend with Cancer
In a statement from the President and Chair of Caprock Academy Board of Directors, Catherine Norton Breman said the dress code was created “to promote safety, uniformity, and a non-distracting environment for the school’s students. Under this policy, shaved heads are not permitted.”
and this is why the world is crap when they punish a kid for showing compassion cause it violates a stupid dress code which teaches them screw compassion and doing a good /selfless deed obey our rules or else

While Kamryn had to stay home from school on Monday, the school let her return on Tuesday as they reviewed the situation.
After appealing to the Caprock Academy school board, the school apologized to Kamryn and released a statement saying, “compassion and selfless acts of courage are to be commended and encouraged.”

Yep.
The fact that it got that far shows what kind of spineless dipshits we have teaching the kids these days. Never mind that a shaved head is against the dress code in a Middle School, that Principal could have, and should have made a call. Let the kid in class (rather than giving her the boot), and talk to the school board themselves to get an exception. Or better yet.....change the dress code. I really don't think many Middle Schools have huge problems with shaved heads.....and is it their freaking business in the first place? If a kid of mine were in that school, they would be shaving their head in solidarity of the little girl. I'd love to have a sit-down with the idiot that gave her the boot.

The article didn't mention anything about the girl with cancer, but did say this is a charter school, so she may not even go there, or she could be out of school all together because of the chemo. Just speculation though.
As for the rules, and whether you, any of you, call them valid I wonder if you would be as pissed if the school has a rule that you can't sag your pants? Likely not, so rules about hair, be it rules preventing hair being too long or too short, are in the same realm. Just because this one time it didn't work out perfect and the girl had to miss one whole day of school let's not go overboard.

Meh......It's not her pants, shirt, or any clothes. Hair is a body part. I could understand that they could have a "no disruptive hair styles" clause in their code, which would leave it open to interpretation on the part of the administrators, but that's not the case. A "no shaved heads" rule reeks of silly zero thought/tolerance bs, and also seems a bit far-reaching for a Middle School. Not to mention that if it only took a day to get the exception, the spineless principal should have let her stay. Instead, their district is getting nation-wide press because they punished a little girl for doing a very noble thing.

And you think there would be no press with a "no disruptive hair styles" clause? What happens when I want my hair like Tommy Lee circa '89, but you disapprove? Or you want your hair like the latest Miley Cyrus cut, and I disapprove? Is a shaved head a problem? I have no clue, but I do know my school, private school, didn't allow it. They also didn't allow hair beyond about shirt collar length on guys. Guess what, I survived the internment camp just fine, and I bet this girl will too.

Re: Girl Banned from School After Shaving Head to Support Friend with Cancer
My High School had a "no disruptive hairstyles" rule in the dress code. It's why I couldn't show-up with a mohawk, but otherwise worked just fine. I think leaving it up to the discretion of the administrators is just fine. We may disagree with the call made by the admin, but at least they can't hide behind some bs zero tolerance rule....such as they did here.
