    No. It has more to do with cognitive ease. Simply, people choose to believe things that are easy to digest. Any sort of distress or cognitive effort is undesirable. It's much easier to accept a statement, then it is to refute and support it.

    Example: "people are stupid."

    Effortless, see what I mean?

    It's all about efficiency.
