Uh oh... private, corporate, cops.
This seems like a bad trend:
SWAT teams claim they’re private corporations, immune from open records laws

I suspect it can't be legal.
My guess is that this sort of claim (and they didn't invent it, they're just the latest to use it) will be an effective delaying
tactic. But that's not all. It might also force courts to make additional distinctions that no one ever thought needed to be made, and now they'll be made with pressure from the same authorities that work with the courts every day.
But that's just a guess (without having read anything but a news report), and we live in 'interesting times' so the usual disclaimers apply. There's lots of things going on that very few of us would have ever thought could be legal.
