It's not the choice. I firmly believe that once they get into office, Chicago calls them and lets them know who's boss. Chicago doesn't give a shit about anyone outside of cook county and they prove it time and time again. And the politicians kow-tow to them over and over. Even if they start out good, as soon as Chicago gets it's hooks into them they are done for.

ST. PAUL — Jesse Ventura, the former wrestler and Minnesota governor, was defamed when a former member of the Navy SEALs wrote a book about an encounter he said he had with Mr. Ventura in a bar eight years ago, a federal jury here found on Tuesday.
Although verdicts in such cases are customarily unanimous, both sides agree to the split verdict of 8 to 2, which was reached after more than a week of deliberations. Jurors awarded Mr. Ventura $500,000 for defamation and $1.3 million for what was termed the author’s unjust enrichment.

I thought the defamation would probably go through. From what little I knew about it, it seemed pretty cut and dry.

If he got punched (which I think he did fwiw), there can be no defamation. The truth is an acceptable defense for defamation.

And no....At this point, Jesse couldn't get served in a drive-through around here. He'll never show his face around here again. Hopefully. The man is a human waste of space. The book didn't ruin his career, he did.

The fucking jurors that awarded him the judgement should be in the same shit wagon out of town.

At least this is likely his public swan song. I don't see anyone hiring him for anything anytime soon. Punched or not, he dragged the widow of a murdered American hero through a difficult public trial. Putting Jesse's name on anything would be ridiculous at this point.
