If we're going to have a Drama party, let's at least hold it in the Drama Gymnasium that was built for it.

Reagan enlisted, and then was commissioned. His wartime duty was basically public relations. I'm sure the army taught him how to salute, and I suppose he qualifies as a vet, but he doesn't have anything like the cred that Bush 1 has.

Clinton and Obama didn't serve. As Commander in Chief, I think they get latitude to do whatever they want. Clearly the public will judge them as they will. Personally, I don't have a problem with them.

Bush 2 served in the Air National Guard. Controversy over how he got in and what he did aside, he was a commissioned officer. I don't know whether he deserves the buffoonish reputation he got, but I think that picture is unfair. Respect him or not, he's a bad fit for an SS uniform; and I can't see how anyone would think he was really giving a fascist salute.

Carter served. He gets the same cred as any sub-mariner, plus he kicked it nuke-style in the early days.

I'd like to know what Kennedy and Eisenhower did as far as saluting while Prez. Both of them have as much or more cred than Bush 1. I suspect they didn't salute their ceremonial guard, but I don't really know how to prove it.

The point I was trying to make is: if you google it, you'll see MANY occasions where all the Presidents from Reagan til now have Saluted, and done it WELL.

Also I don't think Bush 2.o had any idea what he was doing, or what the context is of that photo. It was just funny, But you don't see any other potus doing that do you? and Obama is the one called a tyrant. Lol.

Finnally look at the Nixon Pic. He's not doing anything......is he even a Patriot? If he isn't we should Impeach him.

Found this video of Eisenhower saluting while visiting the Marine Corps War Memorial.

It's a little hard finding things for JFK as the searches turn up stories on his son saluting JFK's coffin.

    The president is a civilian.

The more things that get contributed to this thread, the more I think that Reagan's attempt at starting a tradition was a mistake. If it worked for him, fine. He seemed to genuinely have a folksy sense of humour and an honest warmth.

The president has a lot to do. Guards serve a real and a ceremonial purpose, and they're going to be scattered all over all the time. It's stupid to demand that the president keep track of every uniform all the time. It's a distraction and a waste of time.

I'm starting to feel the same way about this as I feel about politicians wearing flag pins or publicly reciting the pledge of allegiance, or conspicuously attending church on Sunday. These things are superficial, and no real indication one way or the other.

I'll bet Reagan didn't salute his guard when he was walking over to meet Gorbachev.

To me it's not the fact if they salute or not but IF you're going to at least attempt to do so respectfully which Obama is capable of doing.

    A few small corrections.

This particular president seems more interested in vacations and golfing then those important things.

No one is asking him to keep track of all of them. Rest assured he knows from his many trips on those aircrafts he knows there will be a few at the bottom of the ramp. In fact no one is saying he should salute at all. Its as simple as dont half ass it like a fucking retard.

I dont know why you ask about what Reagan did while walking to meet Gorbachev. It has no relevance seeing as not one person has even remotely said any president including this one needs to salute every Marine they pass. Come to think of it though it is a good idea. Snap to.
